Homes For sale in Hackney

Why Buy in Hackney?

Considered part of inner London, the London Borough of Hackney is the third largest in the city. The area has a rich history with over 1000 listed buildings, including St Augustine’s Tower in St John’s Church Gardens.

Hackney has received an injection of National Lottery Heritage Funding over the past decade, resulting in 25 well-maintained conservation areas and award-winning green spaces. A broader regeneration effort in Hackney has resulted in new housing developments, thriving retail spaces, and more cultural venues across the Borough than ever.

Amenities in Hackney

Green Spaces

Hackney residents are spoilt for choice of outdoor spaces. There are an impressive 58 parks across the Borough and the largest concentration of football pitches in Europe at Hackney Marshes.

London Fields

With its proximity to the bustling Broadway Market and Mare Street, London Fields is a popular spot for picnicking, socialising and relaxing outdoors in Hackney. The park boasts a lido, pub, basketball court and wildflower meadow, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Springfield Park

A Green Flag award winner, Springfield Park spans nearly 15 hectares and began as the private land of three houses. Springfield House is now the only original home in the park, easily recognisable by its white exterior. The property and surrounding gardens have been beautifully restored with Heritage funding.

Clissold Park

Clissold Park has been open since 1889 and has a Green Flag award. Similarly to Springfield Park, Clissold Park and House received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund restoration project. The park is a conservation area, containing birds, goats and even a herd of fallow deer.

Shopping

Markets

The historic Broadway Market is open 365 days a year and has been running since the 1890s. The bustling street includes stalls for artisanal food, jewellery and vintage clothes. Elsewhere, Mare Street Market is a popular indoor market with a cocktail bar, food hall and a barber shop.

Food and Drink

Wilton Way Riviera

Wilton Way Riviera is perfect for summer weekends with street stalls for coffee and venues with outdoor seating if you want something a little stronger.

Nightlife

East London nightlife has something for everyone, from large event spaces to intimate gig venues. Found inside a listed Victorian railway building, Oslo has hosted big names like Marina and the Diamonds and Dua Lipa. The Moth Club is another popular night out with comedy and club nights on the weekly roster.

Culture

Hackney Carnival

Annually held in September, Hackney Carnival celebrates the diverse local communities. On parade day, floats of talented musicians, artists and costumed dancers make their way from Mentmore Terrace to London Fields West Side.

Victor Wynd Museum

A peculiar museum of curiosities, Victor Wynd is full of taxidermy and the bones of real and mythical creatures alike. There are even pieces of art made from human hair… If you leave the exhibition feeling chilled to the bone, there’s an absinthe bar to warm you back up.

Guts Gallery

Guts Gallery is an innovative art venue that displays the work of contemporary artists and hosts art fairs throughout the year.

Health and Fitness

Aside from the many gyms across the borough, Hackney has plenty of wellness facilities and fitness studios. London Fields Lido is open for swimming during the summer. Rumble offers everything from boxercise to rock climbing and spin classes. There are also venues to train in CrossFit, yoga and Pilates.

The Borough has the most people cycling to work in London and has excellent cycle routes for commuters and hobbyists alike. These include the Wetlands-to-Wetlands path and the Olympic Park Greenway routes.
